Some Explaining To Do...

Two posts in ONE day??!? MADNESS!!!!

Pardon the low quality of the image, I don't have a scanner or a high grade camera so I'll have to rely on my iPhone for pictures for now. I'm going to look into getting a scanner and maybe a better photo camera because I would love to be able to take great photos of when I go out around the island with friends and such. Basically, this image popped into my head one day while watching "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie" during the "What's Opera, Doc?" segment. Basically, Lola from "Space Jam" finds a picture of Bugs and Elmer and questions Bugs about it. I'm actually pretty proud of how I managed to keep with the character models. Okay, so, I admit, Looney Toons was WAY back in the day. BUT! Lola Bunny did NOT appear until "Space Jam" circa 1996. So, it applies. Sort of. Yeah.

Cheers.

He's from the 90's, bub XD

Lol, first post for me, whutwhut. I drew this to either resell at Forbidden Planet or give to a certain voice actor *coughcoughScottMcNeilcough* I probably should have left it an ink drawing, tbh; comic book cover paper is not a fan of Copic, so it looks a little washed out and streaky. Too lazy to do a srsbsns scan, blah blah.

Adonis Fry

I'm pretty happy with how this came out. It's just a silly painting based off a silly accident. I had started drawing Fry in my sketchbook but wasn't liking how the picture was coming out so I erased it. I then went to a figure drawing meeting and reused the page in a study of arms. It wasn't until after I filled the page that I noticed that the faint leftover lines of Fry's head fit well in place with a couple of the arms I drew from different poses. Maybe it was my subconscious at work, but I thought the pose was funny and Fry looked really pleased with himself.

I just didn't want to tell him he has a woman's arms cleverly painted over to look a little more manly. I added all the rest to make it look like a cheesy 80's portrait.

COWABUNGA, muthaf*ers

I am insanely proud of this.

After uploading three digital (well, okay, one of them a sketchbook drawing digitally coloured) pieces for the past three topics, I wanted to go the traditional route this time around for a change of pace. I decided the Turtles are pretty much the definition of cartoon nostalgia for me, and I had a piece of cardboard I'd been saving for a special occasion, so I went to town on it. I was going for a graphic look with this that I think goes with the boys' New York street background, and the style I drew them in is kind of a combination of some of their various incarnations (old show, new show, new CG models) plus a little of my own. Sketched in pencil, inked with a black sharpie, highlighted with white gel pen, touched up with prismacolor pencil, and then added the background tone effect with copic marker. The overall colours in this are kind of weird and blocky because I had to scan it in parts and piece it together in Photoshop. Kind of an experiment, and I think a successful one. I will DEFINITELY be drawing on cardboard more often.

TURTLE POWER. \m/

A Bleak Future

Well, for this topic I suppose I cheated because Futurama technically premiered in 1999. I couldn't really think of another cartoon I cared to draw. I figured I might be the only one doing an art piece about Futurama anyway.

I was inspired by this poster: http://screenrant.com/poster-friday-star-trek-avatar-the-road-wolfman-rob-36473/ though mine doesn't look so much like it as it does a Japanese propaganda poster. I like it for it though. I thought it would be fun to put some sort of tagline on it to look more like a poster, but I couldn't really think of anything that wouldn't be distracting.

I have to admit I pretty much made it up as I went along so its kind of haphazard but I'm happy with the colors and the mood. I drew a rough drawing on paper and did the rest in photoshop.

new topic post [31 jan - 1 feb 2011]

Since most people including myself were having trouble picking a favourite, I decided let's make this time multiple-choice! :D You can pick and choose from any of the three topics, and even combine two or more if you're feeling up to it. Any number of drawings is cool, as per usual. If this a success I'll consider doing this more often.

Changeover date will be March 31 - April 1, since February is a short month and this is a big deal. I expect to see some weird and wonderful insanity result, so GO FORTH AND GO TO TOWN, FOLKS. ♥

2. "if you were trapped in a video game, what powers/weapons/appearance would you be stuck with at the first level or stage. no godmodding. you start at level one. also what situation would you end up being in at the first stage (they make the first encounter with a boss real freaky sometimes)
can be any video game or something u made up. doesn't have to be generic too. it can be something like pokemon"

3. "Create something based off of a song.

Any song, it can be an emotional response or can be a literal representation of the song's lyrics or title. Whatever the song brings out of you.

Just make sure you post the song title and artist in your blog post and also a link to the song would be really cool. "
