"HELLO my name is JACK"

This is my drawing for the introduction topic. Because Jack introduced his knife into the man's gut. Jack didn't like him. Jack doesn't like you either.

ivey "rainell" intro

first time painting with SAI. i admit, i wasn't too happy when i drew this. since the beginning of the month, its been really rough.
hey. its ok to admit. sometimes we all get sick of living. sometimes we just want to temporarily stop. just temporarily. it can be a burden to wake up and face a day when you realize that YOU yourself is that great burden.
and what reason do i have not to be happy? i'm greatful for many things. i seek solace in God.
but these feelings, i really can't help. its just the way it is if you have bipolar depression for 10 years
and yet i've always been seeking comfort in art since i was 14. i come up with great ideas while coping with stress and depression. some of them happy. some of them dark. and i always seem to have an obsession with inserting God in everything. from sephirot images to cruxifictions. drawing this made me feel much better. i can't seem to remember what's been making me sad either. eventually, wanting to bring my ideas alive became one of the main things that prevented me pulling that trigger.

but sometimes we just need a trigger to bring us alive.

i was listening to korn while painting, which i haven't listened to since highschool. gosh i feel like an emo teenager

Beardtroduction

I think it was expected that I would do something involving my beard, so I delivered! The people atop the shaver represent all of my friends, because my friends and their artwork inspire me (Woah thats so cheesy). I also have some bass bumpin there, music is incredibly inspiring to me, I find I work best with music on. I got my girl there, Amanda, with her disgusting dog Roo Roo. Beside that I have the many dogs I have been with in my life; Cream, Brundle & Gonzi. Some sea animals there leaping out of my beard, for some reason that I have yet to understand I like to draw and involve sea creatures in my work.

I think the rest is self explanatory.

Intro/Abduction

I was watching The X-Files the other day and was feeling inspired. I thought I liked the idea of an alien introducing itself to fit the theme rather a painting introducing myself... though I do enjoy Sci-Fi....

I was aiming to create a kind of eerie, unearthly glow using a greenish-blue color pallet and the outer glow effect for certain parts of the painting. They are classic alien visuals but I always liked these creepy scenes in The X-Files the best, so I wanted to paint it. Its probably not as haunting as the show but I believe I succeeded in capturing the moment.

Whats important to me is I tried some new things in Photoshop and I'm pretty happy with the result.

first post!

Hi guys, and welcome to Tonight We Draw! (don't ask why that name... it appeared to me and after not very much deliberation I decided it was perfect. :B) We're a group of friends who enjoy drawing and draw for a living, and this blog is set up to act as a roughly bimonthly drawing exercise. Every two weeksmonth we'll pick a new topic, and post whatever sketches or drawings we come up with based on that.

Not going to bog this down with too many actual rules, but just to clarify:

  • any number of entries per person per subject is cool. this is supposed to be a fun thing, so if you've completed one drawing and have more ideas, go for it! revisiting older topics, posting works-in-progress and then updating later is also okay.

  • any form of media - illustration, animation, rough sketches, models, digital, traditional - goes, as long as it involves drawing/sculpting/building in some way. (too bad - I know some of you were looking forward to submitting entries in the form of interpretive dance)

  • we take turns to pick a topic/theme/challenge alphabetically by first name, just to have some kind of order. new system!

  • I have no issues with violence and nudity but I'd advise posting some kind of warning and linking offblog if it's really explicit, just because it's the internet, and employers and future-employers can find these things. Plus I think it'd be cool if this could act as a kind of pseudo group portfolio effort. But you be the judge of what you think is okay/not okay for public consumption.

  • not a big deal, but would appreciate it if you guys could label your posts with the topic in question just to keep stuff organized! you can title posts/drawings whatever you want.

Okay, now we've got that out of the way... as founder of this blog, I'm picking the first topic: Introductions. Come up with a picture that acts as a self-portrait as well as representative of what you find aesthetically pleasing or inspiring. I know, so art school. :B

(Tris, two mondays from now (13th Dec), it's your turn to pick a topic/challenge. :) and if you guys have anything to add/suggest/correct me on, feel free to comment.)
